What Is A Fuse? And How To Test It.

Posted by admin on 30 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: House Of Hardware

A fuse is a very thin wire, which either melts or vaporizes when too much current flows through it. The thin wire may be made of aluminum, tin-coated copper or nickel. The resulting open in the circuit stops current flow. In electronic equipment, most fuses are cylindrical glass or ceramic type with a metal cap at each end! The current rating also can be seen in one of the two metal end caps. There are two popular physical sizes: 1 - X - inch and 5X20mm. The 1 - X - inch size is used in many automobiles. You’ll find both sizes in many electronic equipment, but the smaller 5 X 20mm has become more common. Fuses are available with current ratings from 1/500 Ampere to hundreds of amperes.

    Purpose of Fuses

The purpose of a fuse is to open an electronic circuit when current flow exceeds a certain amount, determined by the rating of the fuse. Opening a circuit under high current conditions can save electronic components from damaged and prevents overheating, which could cause a fire.

    Types of Fuses

There is two basic types of fuses: fast acting and slow blow. The fast acting type will open very quickly when their particular current rating is exceeded. This is important for analog meter movements, which can quickly be destroyed when too much current flows through them, for even a very small amount of time. Slow blow fuse have a coiled construction inside. They are designed to open only on a continued overload, such as a short circuit. The purpose of coiled construction is to prevent the fuse from blowing on just a temporary current surge.

Do not use a slow blow fuse in place of a fast acting fuse. It may not open fast enough to prevent components damage under a high current condition. It’s not harmful to replace a slow blow fuse with a fast-acting fuse, but it will probably open up unnecessarily every now and then when the equipment is first switch on. A blown fuse can tell you something about your service problem. Often the glass case of the fuse appears clear, and you can still see the broken pieces of the fuse element. This means you have the kind of problem that causes a slow, gradual overload on the power supply. Some fuses even die of old age. But if the inside of the glass fuse is discolored, and there is no trace of the fuse element (the center connector), you know that the center connector was destroyed quickly and violently, using a lot of heat. The fault was a short circuit or other problem that caused a lot of current to flow very quickly.

Is some cases a fuse will open up fast enough when there is a surge so that other components aren’t damaged. If this is the case, replacing the fuse with one of the same type and rating restores operation. Unfortunately, a high probability exists that if a fuse blew, something in the circuit it was protecting shorted out. In this case, a replacement fuse blows right away. The blown fuse can easily be replaced by a new one, after the overload has been eliminated when come into replacement. Use only the same current and voltage ratings as the original. The common type and current rating of a fuse in a monitor are slow blow 2A to 5A. When you buy replacement fuses, get several - you can easily use all of them while you’re troubleshooting an elusive problem.

    Testing Fuses

Turn the power off and remove the fuse from the circuit to check with a multimeter set to the lowest ohms range. Connect the probes to both end of the fuse. You may check the fuse while it still in circuit. A good fuse should showed continuity or read 0 ohm. A blown fuse is open which reads infinity on the meter.

Kiwi Invader New Zealand Mud Snails Endanger Yellowstone National Park

Posted by admin on 28 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: Living History

What, you may well ask, do 13 foot-tall New Zealand birds that have been extinct for 500 years and modern Wyoming trout species have in common? And what, you may also ask, since you’re in the asking mood, do snails have to do with any of it? Well, the answer is “quite a lot, really”. It’s a bit complicated, but bear with me.

In something like the year 1500 C. E. the Polynesian ancestors of the Maori peoples arrived in what is known today as New Zealand. They were a brand new species to the islands, with no previous place in the ecosystem. As a result the local prey species, most notably the enormous native birds called Moa, had no natural defenses against them. Moa were not only flightless, they were completely wingless. Their only natural predator on the island was a 30-pound eagle (also later hunted to extinction by the proto-Maori), so the weren’t that fast on their feet, since there’s not much point in running from an 80-MPH flying killing machine. Their only defense against ground-based predation was their great size, which humans have traditionally not given much of a damn about (island peoples can hunt whales in wooden canoes; over-grown chickens are hardly scary to them). The end result is that all of New Zealand’s giant flightless birds are currently on display at several fine natural history museums around the world.

But what’s that to do with snails?

Enter Potamopyrgus antipodarum, the New Zealand Mud Snail. These tiny, aquatic, freshwater mollusks are migrating out of New Zealand, not into it, but their impact on an ecosystem they had no previous place in could have similar repercussions for native species. Carried by us world-trotting humans, these critters made their North American debut in the 1980’s in the Snake River, and have been drifting west ever since. They are now present in Wyoming’s Yellowstone National Park.

How do these diminutive invaders hop from river to river, lake to lake, establishing an almost unshakeable presence as they go? Humans again, I’m afraid. The New Zealand Mud Snail is prone to hitchhiking on boats and fishing gear. So a careless or messy angler on an extended fishing trip can spread the little devils far and wide.

Mud Snails are quite hardy enough to make the trip as well. They’re so small ( 6mm long, maximum, and sometimes as small as a grain of rice), and they so much resemble tiny flecks of mud, that they often go undetected. They can survive out of water for several days, and can live in many kinds of freshwater environments. They’re even resilient enough to handle low temperatures (anything above freezing) and can pass unharmed through the digestive tract of most fish. Moreover, they reproduce asexually, and are “livebreeders”, meaning they produce a number of perfectly formed little clones, so even one can spawn a colony.

New Zealand Mud Snail densities of more than million snails per square yard have been found in Yellowstone Park. With no natural predators to keep it in check there’s every possibility native snail species will be out-competed into extinction and native plant species overwhelmed. Such an unbalancing presence can decimate other species, such as trout, something that gives the Colorado Fish and Wildlife Department and dedicated Wyoming fishing enthusiasts reason for pause.

Efforts are being made to curb the New Zealand Mud Snail invasion. Let’s hope the trout have more luck than the Moa.

Are You Responsible Enough to Lose Fat?

Posted by admin on 27 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: University Of Real Estate Brokering

Seems like an odd question for a personal trainer to ask her clients, but I do. I have a theory that not every one is willing or able to accept that the sole outcome of their fitness and nutrition program is based on personal responsibility. There are a few circumstances in which an individual has no control over their weight gain or weight loss, but for the majority of us our results can be expressed by our resolve.

A few things prompted me to write this little article about personal responsibility. One is a television show that I watched last night. Other reasons include a few emails I received this past week and a personal friend’s comments to me. Each of these situations taught me something rather interesting. Something I already knew, but didn’t quite think about until now.

There is a race to melt fat, tone up, slim down, and feel great about your body before the summer hits. Have you noticed an increase in diet pill commercials lately? What about exercise gadget infomercials or new diet books? The dreaded warm weather means many of us are about to bare skin that we’d rather keep hidden.

In this frenzy to shed the weight I have been receiving a bombardment of emails from folks looking for a magic solution. They are convinced I know something they do not. A few emails this past week blew me away. One of them accused personal trainers of knowing the secret to weight loss, but thought they refused to tell anyone the answer so they wouldn’t lose clients. Another email practically begged me to spill my guts about my training program because the person thought I had a super-duper program that only personal trainers use.

Admittedly I got a bit upset at first. I mean do people actually think personal trainers know the secret to fat loss, but are unwilling to share it with others? Nonsense. We share it with folks all the time. It’s all about eating well and enough and being active out often. And just for the record my nutrition and exercise routine are the exact same routines I talk about on my site and in my ebook. I actually follow my own advice!

Two other things worth mentioning happened to me within the past week as well. I watched a television show about changing your family lifestyle. The point is to become active and eat healthy so that children grow up healthy. I loved the idea behind the show and that is why I watched. About half way through this particular episode I was in shock.

The children, aged 8 and 10, were actually eating better and becoming more active. They were following the rules the nutritionist had set for them. They were healthier and happier. Guess who was unwilling to change? Mom! She sat out on her front porch swing, smoking a cigarette, and talking to the camera about how this show was supposed to be for and about her children and not her. Therefore she should be able to eat when and what she wants.

Lastly I had a friend approach me and tell me how lucky I was to be fit. She went on to talk about how she wishes she could go kayaking and hiking as much as I did. She talked about how I am so lucky to work in the fitness industry and what a coincidence it was that I enjoyed my job. She went as far as to say she wishes she could have some of my luck.

Between those few emails, the television show and my friend’s comments it became abundantly clear that many people lack personal responsibility. Each scenario boiled down to one basic tenet- only you are responsible for you. No one can make you lose fat. Not even me! I cannot force you to stick to an exercise program. I cannot demand you kayak more or love your job. I wish I could, but I cannot.

Only you can make changes in your life. You are the only person who can create a happy, healthy, vibrant, loving and thriving life. I can provide the tools and motivation, but you are the master of your destiny. You are the sole force that determines how successful you will be in your life. Ask yourself these questions:

    - Do you love waking up in the morning because you are excited about your day?

    - Are you truly happy with your body?

    - Are you thrilled with your personality?

    - Do you really believe that you are in control of your life?

    - Do you acknowledge that your thoughts are not enough? Action is key.

I help many people find a path to joy through living healthy and fit lives. I can beyond a shadow of a doubt proclaim that once you push aside the excuses, once you really step up to the plate, you will hit a home run. There will be hard times, but with the proper tools, motivation and goals you can and will overcome them.

Personal responsibility is the main success factor in fat loss. It is not luck that I find time to hike and kayak. It is not coincidence that I love my job. We all have 24 hours in a day. How we decid to spend that time really determines our life’s outcome. Watching 4 hours of television each night is not conducive to you if your goal is fat loss. It’s all about personal responsibility and doing what you know is right for you. So I ask, are you responsible enough to lose fat?

Property Index: a Great Worldwide Real Property Site

Posted by admin on 25 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: Regional Buzz

Even if PropertyIndex.com is a new kid on the block company, they were registered in March 2007, they have fast established expert status. Actually, they are a unbelievably cool company exclusively focused on catering to every visitor who is intending to sell, buy, rent, etc. real estate across the globe. Their affirmation is to lend you a hand to laser target exactly what’s desired very swiftly as well as, of course, in a trouble-free manner.

Property can easily be found anywhere in the world in our times, one of the hippest areas being real property available in France. It should be no effort to catalogue the good properties available for sale in France, one motive for opting for properties here being a combination of the houses and apartments for sale and the superb opportunity to live with such a lively populace. This is one of the truly popular regions in our times, and in view of the lovely landscape and the agreeable weather surrounding you here, how could you say no…. Property in France is very rich in history and culture, this part of the world has been and still is home to a good many sophisticated cultures.

Property Index have a range of properties for sale in France, from villas to apartments.

Only 30 years ago there’d be just a small number of English people who are looking for properties in France. Ask any one single person who has relocated to France and they are certain to back it up. Many people would tend to see it as a rage and others tend to see it as a more or less a compulsion… Customers who are interested in transferring to this place generally range from yuppie couples keen on an exciting perspective to senior citizens looking to chill out. Bear in mind, though, that you may have to wrestle with a few obstacles when buying properties overseas - expectably there’ll be hundreds of varied actions when planning, calling in or purchasing. If you miss out on just a single minor step that will engender wide-ranging obstacles not to forget, even more importantly, a failed investment.

Obviously and expectably with this well-liked destination, properties may be unbelievably high priced in this area and that’s merely because of the growing market demand. In spite of this the property buyer is indeed pretty much spoilt in terms of choice in such a place so full of sensational countryside and sun soaked surroundings. Patently it’s got all, stock and barrel, patrons may require etc.

    Thanks Heavens for Handbags

Posted by admin on 25 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: University Of Real Estate Brokering

I am as passionate about handbags as I am about shoes. I don’t know what it is with accessories but I just can’t seem to get enough of them. I’m not alone, most women will admit to having a weakness for shoes and bags.

An outfit is never complete without the right accessories and this includes your handbag.

Although you can spend a small [or large!] fortune on a handbag, you don’t have to. Compared to clothing or shoes, handbags can be relatively inexpensive. This means that you can pretty much choose a selection of handbags to work with all the clothes you wear.

Handbag charms are also a great way of adding a little something different to each of your handbags and they are also very fashionable at the moment.

A handbag can really add something to your outfit so choose a few in different materials, sizes, colours and styles.

I am not sure where the idea of an everyday bag came from but it should be dispelled for all eternity. What’s an everyday bag anyway? It takes you under five minutes to transfer the contents of one bag to another and it will give you that ‘new bag’ feeling every day!

Try to choose just one neutral coloured handbag. I think every woman would admit to always going for neutral colours when it comes to bags because it’s a safe choice. It works with whatever you are wearing and it makes your life easier …. Right?

Well, here’s a thought. If you carefully chose half a dozen handbags that worked with lots of other colours you could easily mix and match them with whatever you choose to wear.

Handbags are accessories, just like your shoes. Most women don’t wear the same pair of shoes everyday and similarly changing your handbag works on the same principles.

Get it right and you’ll create yourself a whole new wardrobe just by adding a few different handbags and perhaps a couple of charms here and there.

    Vacation Rentals in Kauai

Posted by admin on 19 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: University Of Real Estate Brokering

The northernmost island of Hawaii might not be the most well-known, but a little time spent investigating it will surely prove that it is worth a visit. From mountainous parks to stunning beaches, Kauai offers ample opportunity for hiking, sailing, surfing, whale watching, or simply relaxing with the help of a cool breeze and a tropical drink.

The South Shore tends to attract the most visitors, as this is where the calmest water and highest density of resorts can be found. Due to Kauai’s location, it experiences the most powerful waves of any of the Hawaiian Islands so swimmers are advised to practice caution. Lifeguards can be found at many of the most beautiful beaches, however, so travelers should not be deterred from spending some time in the water.

The North Shore is a bit more rugged, and offers the most breathtaking views on the island. Cliffs tower above the shoreline, making this a great spot to travel to by car. Here also is the quiet town of Hanalei, which was the arrival point for the area’s first settlers. Citizens of Kauai are proud of their heritage, and many museums and cultural festivals celebrate their ancestors and traditions.

Once you’ve decided to spend some time in Kauai, you’ll need the perfect place to stay. On an island vacation, visitors often hope to balance peace and privacy with comfort and access to standard amenities. With this in mind, it would be wise to look into a vacation rental, which would allow for the best of both worlds.

Picture a two-bedroom villa nestled at the feet of the Makaleha Mountains, with a citrus orchard just outside the window and a nearby stream that will lull you to sleep at night. A short walk will lead you to a waterfall and cool mountain breezes, and just a bit farther down the road you have easy access to the sandy beach and salty waves. A quick drive will take you to an array of shops and restaurants, but don’t forget about the barbeque grill located on your villa’s deck that is just waiting for you to prepare a leisurely meal at home.

When traveling with the family, it makes sense to look for accommodations that truly accommodate. A day at the beach will certainly produce sandy clothes, hungry kids, and the desire to find a cool and shady place to relax for a while. What could be better than returning to your beachside condo that has plenty of beds and sofas, a washer and dryer, and a fridge stocked with the sodas and snacks that you picked up earlier at the grocery store? Once everyone is refreshed, just head out the back door for more beach time. Such a set-up will surely make your trip to Kauai relaxed and memorable.

Vacation rentals exist in all shapes and sizes. Couples will find plenty of romantically secluded cottages, and larger groups can reserve a place big enough for everyone to be together without getting on each other’s nerves.

HomeAway.com provides hundreds of vacation rental listing located all over the world, including plenty in lovely Kauai.

    Meditation and Happiness

Posted by admin on 19 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: University Of Real Estate Brokering

Everyone is meditating on something all the time. If you want a clue as to what people are spending most of their time meditating on then look at the circumstances and content of their lives. Most humans meditate on acquiring power (money, reputation), sex (do I need to give an example here?) food and consumption (acquiring whatever person, place, or thing you “need” to make your life comfortable and “happy”). There is nothing wrong with meditating on acquiring these things (we must live our lives) they just don’t make you happy. Since a genuinely happy person is almost as rare as an honest politician then we can conclude that most people do not meditate on what makes them happy.

But Paul, I’m happy, and I have lots of friends that are happy. Don’t be a buzz-kill!

Right. I’ll define what I mean by happy. True happiness is not affected by the positive or negative conditions of ones life. How happy can you be if in the back of your mind you know that your happiness can be snatched from you in a moment? By happy I mean content and blissful despite your circumstances.

Consider this, most people are happy only when the conditions of their lives present themselves as positive. Let’s take the fictional character Bob. Bob’s happy. It’s a nice sunny day, his rent is paid, he’s surrounded with friends and family he loves and Bob anticipates a bright and happy future. Bob’s happiness is the result of positive conditions. The next day is partly cloudy, Bob learns that someone ran over his pet, and that work is “rightsizing” his job oversees. Bob’s inner condition starts to darken and Bob doesn’t feel so happy. The next day dark and ominous clouds have blotted out the sun. Bob learns that the love of his life betrayed his trust. Bob is crushed. The stormy winds of emotion tear through Bob’s mind and his experience of life is a living hell. The conditions of Bob’s life now present themselves as negative. Indeed, Bob is being tossed around in the stormy ocean of life experience. His happiness is fleeting and is being dictated to him by forces beyond his control.

A genuinely happy person is one who is happy in good times and happy in bad times. These people are not affected by the wild pinball ups and downs of life because their happiness does not derive from the world.

    Pop Quiz:
Q: Why would one want to learn how to meditate?
A: To learn how to derive happiness from a source that is always happy, bright and powerful (i.e. not the world).

I’ll be honest; to be happy in this crazy world is exceedingly difficult. Even amongst the affluent and privileged, one only has to scratch a little below the surface of their social personalities to see that they are as full of fear, sorrow and anger as any one else. Almost no one is immune. I say almost because some people have figured out how to be genuinely happy. These people are rare but if you truly want to be happy then it would be worth your while to find out what these people know and make yourself available to what they have to teach you.

My teacher once told me, “It’s hard to be happy, but isn’t it harder to be unhappy?”

    Namaste

At the age of 15 Paul had a deeply moving experience that left no doubt of the existence of God as an Omnipresent and Omnipotent force of Love. He became a Buddhist monk 13 years ago when he met his teacher. He now teaches meditation classes in San Francisco and the Bay Area.

Intuitive Energy Insights: Portrait of a Psychic / Intuitive

Posted by admin on 15 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: University Of Real Estate Brokering

Many people ask me how I started doing this work.

As a child, my earliest memory is being 3 years old and telling
my mother things that I could not have possibly known. I would
tell her stories about ladies she socialized with and various
relatives. At first she thought I’d ‘overheard’ this information,
but then realized that the stories were ones that were shared
when I wasn’t there. I told her how the people felt, and about
other people connected to them that I had never met. Eventually
she became ‘used to’ my stories and knew I had something that was
    special.

Knowing things about people unfortunately brought sorrow to me
early on in life when I ‘knew’ that my father was going to die. I
was 7 years old. The day he died, my mother came to pick up my
brother and me from elementary school. I already knew what had
    happened.

All though school, I knew what other people were feeling. Mostly
I felt flooded by emotion, often reacting to feelings I’d ‘picked
up’ from others. I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I thought
    I was a basket case.

After these and many other experiences, I knew that I had to
learn about what was happening to me. So, at the age of 17,
through a series of highly synchronistic happenings, I began an
internship with an Intuition specialist to learn about and hone
    my abilities.

During my training I began to understand some of what I went
through as a child. I analyzed myself as I learned. To this day,
I still work to sort myself from others’ feelings. I am more
conscious of it now and it is relatively easy to sort.

My training was ‘hands-on’ in that I worked along side my mentor
as he consulted with clients. I watched, studied, learned and
joined the consultation. I explored their energy field, their
issues and complaints (with their permission of course). This was
my best form of training. Eventually I began to take over the
consultation sessions, slowly building my own clientele as I
    trained.

My abilities fall under several categories, clairvoyant,
clairaudient and clairsentient. Clairvoyant, meaning ‘clear
seeing,’ is the ability to have visions or ’see’ a psychic
impression. Clairaudient, meaning ‘clear hearing,’ is the ability
to ‘hear’ psychic information from another’s energy field or from
higher guidance. Clairsentient, meaning ‘clear feeling,’ is the
ability to ‘feel’ or sense the energy field of another and
experience psychic impressions in an emotional or physical way.

My brother has a similar gift. We like to say he has
‘radar’ or his ‘antennas are on’ because he just ‘knows’ things.
My abilities are similar, but are enhanced in the realm of
sensing what is taking place in a person’s electromagnetic energy
field. I am an Energy Intuitive, ’seeing’, ‘knowing’ and
‘feeling’ others. Intuitives are not mind-readers. We are highly
sensitive beings that have learned how to synthesize the
information that we sense around us.

My training taught me to hone into the core of what is taking
place in someone’s energy field. This ability allows me to get
right to the center of an issue. The source may be karmic memory
(past life related), childhood patterns, emotional overwhelm,
mental confusion, etc. It may even be emotion that source’s from
another person (like a child feeling a parent’s feelings).

I actively read anything I could get my hands on about
intuition, counseling techniques, self-help books, meditation,
etc. I took training courses, earned a degree in psychology, went
on retreats, participated in workshops, learned breathwork, I
even hosted my own meditation group. I gathered tools, tips,
techniques and methods to develop my own intuition and I began to
teach others. My internship lasted 5 years and by the time I
completed my training, I had a full client list.

People of every walk of life are interested in learning about
their intuition. Mostly, they are looking for answers. They have
questions within themselves, feel conflicted and confused—-
without answers! Ultimately they want to feel better. They are
looking for a way to feel better about themselves, get past their
fears and begin moving forward in their lives. They want more and
don’t know how to get it.

During the coaching / intuitive counseling process, we begin
sorting through the emotions, mental chatter and confusions.
Collectively we analyze their current situation, the echoes of
the past that are influencing them, and then develop an active
approach to move forward and transform their lives.

My own intuitive energies come forth, guiding them and directing
their inner quest. As intuitive messages come forward, I deliver
them and help the client to surface the emotional / mental /
physical / spiritual pieces involved to catalyze a
transformation. The working plan of action may include various
assignments and tasks for them to complete along with goals to
    work towards.

In this work, I promote active participation in clearing inner
chatter and identifying old patterns. Intuition is an inherent
trait within us all. Learning to listen to it, work with it and
create life changes out it is a powerful experience that brings
    many rewards.
