However in Chamonix Haute Savoie the luxury catered chalet is invariably exceptional. In addition dining in my families’ preferred hotel restaurant, 212 Coffee Shoppe, enjoying phoenician resort dried cherry scones is a real treat. Chamonix Mont Blanc France is a big enough place to insure that there is lots for the holiday maker to do. Amongst other things it includes a museum and a plethora of night-clubs, Chamonix provides a mix of skiing, alpine charm and sightseeing which few resorts can match.

Your Toner Cartridge Troubleshooting Guide:

Below are some common problems that may show up during your printer usage. Here’s what will happen and how to fix them:

•Dirty PCR (primary charge roller): A dirty PCR, which is located inside the printer, will cause vertical gray streaks down the test page or create a gray background on the entire page.

•Scratched Drum: This condition is indicated by a very thin, perfectly straight line that runs from the top to the bottom of the test page.

•Chipped Drum: A chipped drum will make a dot or series of dots that repeat three times per page. Any drum defects will repeat three times per page based on the drum circumference of 5.2″.

•Light Damaged Drum: This condition will show up as a shaded area on the test print that normally should be white. Again, this will repeat three times per page.

•Bad Wiper Blade: A bad wiper blade will make either a gray line approximately 1/8″ thick or shading across the entire page. In either case, there will be a film of toner on the drum surface.

•Weak Doctor Blade Spring: This will usually show as shaded areas on one or both sides of the page.

Machine Error Codes:

•32 Unsupported Print Cartridges: (Wrong chip, encoder wheel combination or bad chip). If this code appears immediately upon cartridge installation, there is either a bad contact or the chip is bad. If the machine cycles and then the message appears, the wrong encoder wheel is installed. In the T632 machines, this message will also show if the extra high yield cartridge is not installed.

•80 Scheduled Maintenance: The code appears when 300,000 pages have been printed.

•88 Toner Low: Add toner.

•200-280 Indicates various paper jams.

Taking Test Print:

-Printer Menu: Press the “MENU” key until “Utilities Menu” is displayed.
-Press “SELECT.”
-Press the “MENU” key until “Print Menu” is displayed.
-Press “SELECT.”

Font Sample:

-Press the “MENU” key until “Utilities Menu” is displayed.
-Press “SELECT.”
-Press the “MENU” key until “Print Fonts” is displayed.

When you think trash, you surely don’t think about your old, trusty personal computer. But that’s exactly what will become of it when you make the inevitable move toward your next laptop or desktop. And, yes, buying a new computer is inevitable, considering the pace at which computer technology zips along. Just thinkabout a handful of years ago, a fast microprocessor for a laptop was at 233 MHz. So eventually, you will want a computer that can handle the latest software, the latest games, and the latest interactive Web sites, and then you’ll have to throw away your old computer, right? The Blu-ray Disc belongs to a new generation of optical discs capable of staging high density data. Blu-Ray technology is based on a blue-violet coloured laser. The blue laser operates at a wave length of 405 nm, while older technology such as DVDs and CDs are based on red and infrared lasers that works at 650 and 780 nm. Since the wave length is shorter with a blue laser, the new Blu-ray technology makes is possible to store much more information

The advantage with the Blu-ray technology is that the laser beam can be focused much more tightly at the surface of the disc. Tight focus means that a smaller spot will be produced on the surface on the disc, and when the spots become smaller there will naturally be room for more information on each disc. The minimum spot size of any laser depends on a naturally accruing phenomenon called diffraction. The narrow beam of light sent out from a laser will always diverge into a wider beam eventually, due to the natural diffraction of waves. Diffraction will also occur the waves meet an obstruction. By reducing the wavelength of a laser, we can affect the diffraction.

In Blu-ray technology, the diffractions is also affected by the fact that the lens used to focus the light has a higher numerical aperture than the lenses found in ordinary DVDs - 0.85 instead of 0.6. Blu-ray technology based appliances are also equipped with a dual-lens system of supreme quality, and the cover layer has been made thinner in order to prevent unwanted optical effects. All this makes it possible for a Blu-ray laser to focus on much smaller spots. The optical improvements are accompanied with a new method for encoding data which makes it possible to store even more data on the Blu-ray disc.

The standard for Blu-ray technology has been developed as a joint venture between several major manufacturers of PCs and consumer electronics, including Sony and Philips. The group is called the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). The first Blu-ray recorder was launched in Japan in 2003, by Sony. Today, Samsung, JVC, Matsushita (Panasonic) and LG Electronics are all examples of companies using Blu-ray technology in their products. Hewlett Packard has announced that they will release desktop PCs equipped with Blu-ray technology in late 2005.

The main competitor for the Blu-ray technology is the HD DVD format which is also capable of storing more information than a normal DVD. The Blu-ray technology does however allow for more information per layer than the HD DVD format - 25 GB compared to 15 GB. The Blu-ray technology will on the other hand most likely be more expensive to support, at least initially, which can make the HD DVD a tempting alternative. In a Blu-ray disc, the data is stored extremely close to the surface. This made the first Blu-ray discs extremely vulnerable to scratching and many users preferred the tougher HD DVD discs. Since 2004, all Blu-ray discs are coated with a clear polymer called “Durabis” which makes them much more durable. According to the developers of Durabis, the TDK Corporation, a coated Blu-ray disc will work even after being attacked with a screwdriver.

Intel’s revenge on AMD maybe the Xeon Chip, which threatens to break speed processing records and leapfrog AMD technology. While AMD was busy starting legal issues against Intel, it was Intel who was busy working on the next technology for the future of the industry.

Is the new Intel Chip indeed all it is cracked up to be? Some say it is all that and more. In fact this dual-core chip for servers will run at 2.80 GHz. A multi-processor version of the chip will be out in two-months and the price will $1,043.00 which competes nicely against anything competing. We are taking an upgraded processor with a faster bus speed, better memory capacity in a new chip set. Can Advanced Micro Devices with it’s Opteron processor continue their frontal assault on Intel.

The Xeon Chip will have better performance per watt and this will be important as the push towards smart robotics in manufacturing, transportation and construction continues. Will Intel continue to lead in the Server side of the chip industry or will AMD forge ahead? Most Corporations are still upgrading between three and five years and getting a jump on AMD is a strategically good move for Intel. Think on this.

Digital cameras are revolutionizing the world of home and professional photography, but they are married to memory cards just as traditional cameras are married to film. Making the best use of memory cards can have a very big impact on your enjoyment of digital photography. Choosing the right memory card for the job can be as important as choosing the right film for a traditional camera.

If you are new to digital cameras, the digital camera memory cards are the most important parts of any digital camera, without which they may not work at all. So if you are handling a digital camera or planning a purchase, you must know more about the memory cards used in these cameras.

Something many new digital camera owners find counter-intuitive is that bigger is not always better with a digital memory card. The actual response speed of your digital camera can depend greatly on the memory card it is using. The speed that your camera writes new pictures to the digital memory card is partially dependant on the transfer speed of the digital camera but is also dependant on factors in the memory card itself. Memory cards that have “buffers” can take the data into a faster type of memory and then transfer the data from there to the slower “flash memory” which provides the main storage of almost all digital camera memory cards. Some digital camera provide their own buffer memory to allow you to take your next picture while the previous picture is being transferred to the memory card.

When you delete an image from the memory card of your digital camera, the flash memory is “reconfigured” because of special issues having to do with how this memory stores data. Normally this is an issue that you don’t have to worry about at all. However, if you have a very large memory card and delete an image, you may experience a several minute delay while “house cleaning” is performed on the memory card. Because of this, do not delete images while you are taking pictures. Instead wait until you are at home, your hotel or in the car before reviewing your pictures and deleting the ones you don’t want. Smaller cards take less time for this “house cleaning” so many experienced digital camera owners will choose to have more than one medium sized memory card instead of one very large one.

Now the question arises-how many memory cards are enough for your camera? On an average basis, you must have at least two memory cards for your digital camera. That is, if you are using it in a normal and average fashion.

Most professional photographers choose to carry about four to six memory cards. This helps them shoot smoothly and constantly. If they run out of memory, they just take the loaded card out and insert the fresh one. Because memory cards can malfunction (just like traditional film canisters, but not as often), you should choose to have at least two memory cards at all times. By having at least two cards, you can work with one and keep the other in reserve for emergency. Having at least one extra memory card for your digital camera will also ensure that you have the backup protection needed if you run out of space on your first card or in the possible event of the first card malfunctioning.

The next important issue is how to take proper care of these memory cards. The memory cards may seem like some small and fragile piece of technology, but they are actually fairly sturdy. The flash memory is encased in a stiff plastic shell which can withstand normal wear and handling. At one end of the memory card is either a set of little holes or copper strips. These are the sensitive part of the card. Any voltage source or a large jolt of static could corrupt the memory and probably cause permanent damage to the card. When the card is not in your camera, it is best to keep it stored in a protective case or in your camera case. Putting it in your pocket could cause a short (from your keys perhaps) or dirty the electrical contracts. There have been instances where the users have misbehaved greatly with them and the memory cards have yet survived and continued to function correctly. But, this does not mean that one should not care for them.

When it is time to transfer your data from the memory card to your PC, it is best to have a memory card reader, or have a PC with a built-in reader. The data cables provided with most digital cameras are very slow compared to the speed of a “direct reader” and it is often easier to review, copy and delete images from a memory card when using a reader instead of through the data cable connection.

When traveling, X-Rays have never been shown to corrupt the data on, or damage, a digital camera memory card. The memory card is also not magnetic in nature so the motors in the X-Ray machine’s conveyor belt should not be able to cause any harm either.

Armed with knowledge comes the power to benefit from that knowledge. If you have learned something new about digital memory cards, hopefully you will benefit by enjoying your digital camera more and finding more opportunities to take great pictures.

Long gone are the days of dull beige rectangles. Nowadays, computer cases come in various shapes, sizes, colors, and designs and with much better features than ever before. Cases have 3 basic categories of sizes with minor subcategories of each. Servers are usually housed in the largest of cases, the tower. Unless you really plan on running a web or network server there is no need for a home user or gamer to own that type of case. But, that’s your own choice, after all the more case to mod the better, right?

Mid-tower cases are the size most home users have and are the most popular size of cases. About the size of a large brief case, a case this size is perfectly adequate for the majority of gamers and home users. A step down from the tower size case, this case usually has 3 - 5 drive bays plenty of cooling options and most custom computer cases now come with an acrylic side window to see the “guts” of your madness. As monitors have become sleeker and less of a space hog, so to have computer cases.

Micro or mini ATX cases have the smallest footprint of all the cases, about the size of a large shoe box. These are great space savers and compliment the décor of a living room much better than a large custom tower. However, you have to then consider the downsizing of all the components including the motherboard. A “mini” requires a micro ATX motherboard which won’t fit in a regular mid-ATX case. Cooling is limited to usually only one large 120mm fan and you will only have room for 1 hard drive, 1 CD or DVD drive and if lucky a floppy drive. You’ll be pretty hard pressed customizing these cases due to the size. One consideration would be using these in a home network and server configuration. Have your server tucked away in a closet with a Zalman water cooler and use these minis in your kitchen or office as workstations.

Aluminum or Steel Most cases are made of stamped steel painted beige or black and have a simple plastic bezel slapped on the front. If you consider yourself a real “modder” you better step up to an aluminum case. Aluminum is much lighter than steel, has a nicer finish, dissipates heat much better and won’t corrode. Lian Li has made a name for itself making all aluminum cases as well as Antec.

Want to see all those cool aluminum RAM heat spreaders on that 1GB of Corsair memory you just installed? Get an all acrylic case then. Made entirely of clear acrylic sheets these cases are gaining popularity and really provide a unique look literally into the world of case modding. These cases come in clear acrylic or UV reactive acrylic. When selecting this type of case not all are created equal. You can’t weld acrylic so most are either glued or bolted together. Stay away from glued cases if the epoxy is not mixed just right the seam can break in only a few weeks of use. Look for acrylic cases that have reinforced corners with some type of metal bracket or brace, not just butted together with screws. Look for acrylic cases that are pre-assembled, after all you’ve got cool components to install that are frustrating enough you don’t need the headaches of case assembly 101.

Room for Upgrades Will this new case give you enough space options for the continual advancement of your computing addiction? Micro ATX cases are cute, don’t take up a lot of space and stylish but not the choice of a hardcore gamer. A full tower you can just about hide a small child inside but unless you run your own network, is the largess really worth it? Most mid-tower ATX cases provide ample room for upgrades as well as full customization for water cooling or other system cooling.

Pull Out Motherboard Tray Theres nothing worse than trying to fit a tiny screw in between two capacitors with big fingers inside a 6″ or 8″ deep case. …it’s a pain. A removable mother board tray is like Tylenol to a headache. There is some space consideration with a pull out tray but is well worth it if you’re the type that plays around with a new motherboard every few months.

Slide Out Components Tray Being able to easily access your hard drives, CD and DVD drives makes modding all that more fun and headache free. With slide out component housing you can add your component to the housing first before popping it into the rail housing. This saves your fingers from trying to manipulate that DVD burner into the top rail when you already installed the PSU, not to mention get those tiny case screws inserted into the rail to fasten the drive to it! Not all cases offer this feature but if you’re in the market for a new case try to find one that does. Your fingers will love you for it!

Power Supply Computers suck some pretty good juice. Then you wan’a run those 8 UV reactive fans, 4 cathode tubes and a 2 million candle power search lamp just to tick off your neighbors! You can’t use that little electric shaver power supply for that kind of rig. Serious modders know that your PC components are only as cool as the quality and quantity of power supplied to them. You can pick up a no-name psu with clear acrylic and pretty LEDs from Xoxide or Newegg for maybe less than $10 but is it worth it in the end? It’s not if frys your $3000 rig. Power supplies are one thing you better put your money into and not go white box or generic brand. Stick to names like Antec, Enermax, Thermaltake and Raidmax have quality products at fair prices. Another item to consider is Intel P4 and AMD k7/k8 compatibility as well as the ability to supply power to the new serial ATA drives. Power supplies can last a long time, maybe you change over to an AMD 64 rig from a P4 at some time in your next half-life. Have power supply, will carry, no need to buy a new one.

Cooling Rendering graphics found in all computer games can work a pc hard increasing the heat created by the video GPU, the CPU, memory and chipset as well as the power supply. Even more so if you over clock. If you demand performance you better keep that stuff cool. Fans are the most common source of cooling in fact most cases include a fan or two as part of the package. Fans come a three standard sizes from 80mm, 90mm and 120mm. There are all kinds of different variations of these like a basic ball-bearing fan and things like brush-less fans. Fans also come in different colors utilizing small LEDs installed in the acrylic to give a very cool lighted effect. UV reactive fans glow a certain color when exposed to UV light which is common in many case mods today. ATX 2.01 specifications require the PSU to exhaust hot are out the back of the PSU thus drawing the hot system air up and out via the supplied PSU fan. Keep that in mind when adding fans to your system. You can get pretty decent cooling by adding just 1 more 80mm intake fan to the front of the case. As this fan sucks air into the bottom third of the case but not up, the PSU sucks that cooler air up and over the motherboard and CPU and then out the back of the PSU, provided you have a two-fan PSU.

With all the amazing features that are available today and those that are on the way, everyone will now be able to make their computer fantasies come true by making the most incredible computer cases the world has ever seen- or at least your friends have ever seen.
