Testing Capacitor-How To Test A Capacitor When Breakdown Under Load

Posted by admin on 31 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: House Of Hardware

Have you ever come across power problem where once
you switch on the power supply and the fuse blow? You
have checked all the components in the power (primary)
and secondary section and all the components seems to be
ok! Where is the fault? A fuse blown are usually caused
by a shorted bridge rectifier, defective posistor, power
transistor or FET, shorted primary winding of switch mode
power tranformer, shorted secondary diode and etc. But
in this article i’m gone to show you another secret of
electronic troubleshooting tips.

I got frustrated as to where is the cause of power problem.
Everytime when i switch on the power supply the fuse blow
immediately (the fuse became dark color and this indicate
that there is a major short circuit in the power supply).
I have checked all the components in the power supply and
can’t find the culprit! What i do is i desoldered all the
suspected parts one by one and replaced with a known good
component. I eventually found the caused of the power supply
problem. Guess what? It was the main filter capacitor
(220 microfarad 400 volt). After replacing the filter cap
the power supply worked perfectly fine. I begin my detective
work to find out why this capacitor can caused the fuse to
blow eventhough i already confirmed it ok with my meters.

The meters that i used to check the filter cap were analog
meter, digital capacitance meter and esr meter. In this
article i will not explain about how to check capacitor or
testing capacitor and how capacitor work.
I believed most of you know how to check capacitors and also
generally using this type of meters. Measured with analog it
showed capacitor charging and discharge, with digital
capacitor tester it showed around 220 microfarad and with
esr meter it showed low esr reading!

This proved that the bad capacitor breakdown when under
full operating voltage. Then, how do i confirm that this
filter capacitor is faulty? By using an analog insulation
tester. When i connect the faulty cap to the meter and press
the go button-it showed a very low resistance and this is the
proved of short circuit between the plate when voltage applied!
There is nothing to do with bad electrolyte.
A good capacitor will just showed a charge and discharge in the
insulation meter just like you are checking a capacitor using
analog multimeter. In the market there is quite a number of
ranges that you can buy. It has the range of 50v, 100v, 250v,
500v, 1000v and even 5000v! If you want to test a capacitor
of 100 microfarad 160v then you have to select 100v. If you
select 250v, it will blow your capacitor that is under test.

If you have the SENCORE TEST EQUIPMENT such as the
sencore lc meter LC102 OR LC103, these meters have the
capabilities of checking any type of capacitors with four tests:
-testing for capacitor values
-checking for leakage
-equivalent series resistance (ESR) and
-Dielectric absorption

It can check aluminum electrolytic capacitor, film capacitor,
ceramic, high voltage capacitor and etc.

Conclusion-Different capacitor manufacturer produced different type of quality of a capacitor. Perhaps the bad capacitor that I
encountered are from the lowest grade one.
A capacitor failure when under load is very rare.
Using ESR capacitor meter alone can solve
most of the electrolytic capacitor problem.

Get a new house with easy loans, 275445 euro in a week

So how do you find a lender or broker you can trust’ See mortgage loan for residential mortgage lending, and commercial mortgage for lending against commercial property. In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans 4 percent secured on real estate rather than other property and in some cases only land may be mortgaged. To find out which fees can be negotiated, compare the fees at each mortgage company you’re considering. Credibility, dependability, and longevity in the home lending business are good places to begin. Start with credibility. It’s not easy to know if the prices quoted by lenders are reliable. Both banks and brokers have their strengths and weaknesses. Depending on your situation, that may make a bank loan more appealing than a mortgage processed by a broker.

And of course, each loan and each borrower are different. Many of these fees are fixed but some can be negotiated.

It is a transfer of an interest in land, from the owner to the mortgage lender, on the condition that this interest will be returned to the owner of the real estate when the terms of the mortgage have been satisfied or performed.

Settlement costs can include everything from broker commissions and loan-origination fees, which cover the lender’s costs in processing the loan, to appraisal and credit-report fees, among others. While a mortgage in itself is not a debt, it is evidence of a debt of 10 percent. Some will quote you precise, competitive rates 6 percent. Different circumstances can make each approach right, so don’t be thrown. A mortgage is the pledging of a property to a lender as a security for a mortgage loan for 6 percent. Although most mortgage experts say that rates 9 percent are pretty much the same wherever you go, give or take this tiny 9 percentage.

But others will claim low rates to bring in customers or tell you that the rates 3 percent offered by competitors will change.

See which lenders are charging fees 11 percent and for how much. Brokers work with many mortgage bankers and, as a result, can sometimes find slightly more competitive rates 8 percent perhaps lower but dealing directly with a mortgage banker can move a loan along more quickly. In other words, the mortgage is a security for the loan that the lender makes to the borrower. Different lenders charge different fees. Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals and businesses can purchase residential and commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately.

Family Cell Phone Plans - Comparison Shopping To Help You Choose The Best Plan

Posted by admin on 30 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: House Of Hardware

With the myriad of cell phone plans that are available through the various carriers today, it can be a bit of a challenge to muddle through it all, trying to find the best package for your family. Each has their own special set of perks that are offered, in order to entice potential customers to purchase a contract and commit themselves to a particular amount of time with the company. Although you’d be hard-pressed to find a carrier that locks you in for more than two years - those days are gone - you’re still committing your patronage for a designated amount of time, and - that being the case - will have a bit of research to do before settling on a specific package. Where do you begin?

Work the Room

One of the best ways to gather information on any product is to solicit the opinions of others who have used it at one time or another. Since cell phones are such a hot commodity today, and everyone who uses one must purchase some type of cell phone plan in order to use it, then there’s a lot of information that’s available to you in virtually any place where you’ll be exposed to others - in other words, everywhere.

  • Extended Family - Since family members often chat with each other at some point during the day via cell phone, check with other family members who are outside your home to see which plan they use and how well it works for them. Depending upon their circumstances, of course, the plan that they have might not be tailored to the needs of your family, but it’s a good starting point.
  • Friends - Although many folks have a very limited number of extended family members in their immediate area, most have a wide variety of friends from which to gather information. It’s in your best interests, therefore, to find out what works best for them. If their families’ needs are similar to yours, you can get a gold mine of information that might help you to select the best family cell phone plan from among the many that are offered in your particular area.
  • Neighbors - If you’re the type that doesn’t barricade yourself from the neighbors with tall hedges that serve to discourage communication, then you’re probably in the position to check with those who are living around you about which local carriers offer good family plans. Since most people today carry this type of device, then the chances are good that you’ll come up with something worthwhile.
  • Co-Workers - One of the main reasons that adults invest in cell phones today is to keep in touch with family members during the time when they’re at work or are traveling on work-related business. Therefore, finding a great family cell phone plan is a real priority for them, and you can cash in on the research that they’ve already done. Keep in mind that their particular carrier may not be available in your area, but chances are good that they are, since most people don’t have an overly long commute to and from work each day.
  • Clubs/Organizations/Extracurricular Activities - Whether you work out at the gym twice each week, attend an art class or belong to a bridge club, you have the potential to meet a large number of people who use cellular phones and can speak to you about their options packages. Keep in mind that learning about what they use is only half of the research - getting information about what plans didn’t work for them is the other half. Sometimes, carriers make a product look great but, when put to practical use, it’s found to be failing.
  • Online Community - Lots of information can be found online regarding cell phone service plans, and one of the best ways to find information about specific carriers and their plans is to search for cell phone reviews. These are easily found - by simply typing “cell phone review” into the keyword area of your favorite search engine - and offer the added benefit of being up-to-date and usually fairly specific regarding the assets and liabilities of the packages’ particulars.

Compiling the Data

It’s important to keep in mind that there are lots of different types of plans that are available, so there’s a lot more research to do be done than may be immediately apparent. For instance, the term “cell phone plan” is very generic, since there are various types of service; so when it’s time to compare cell phone plans, you’ll have to consider each type of service that’s offered through each carrier. Among the many things that you’ll have to examine are prepaid cell phone plans, “no contract” cell phone plans, “pay as you go” mobile phones and internet phone service. Once you’ve narrowed it down to the specific type of cell phone service that you prefer, then you’ll have to take the particular features into consideration. These may include long distance plans, multiple phone options, “free minutes” packages and mobile-to-mobile options, to name a few.

In order to weave your way through all of the information that you’ve collected, it’s best to list the cellular phone carriers that you’ve examined, listing each option and its specifics. Once this list has been compiled, then it’s time to decide what type of cell phone coverage is necessary in order to meet your particular needs. Through the good old-fashioned process of elimination, most of your work will be done before you make the attempt to contact any of the cellular phone companies. When you get to that point, you might also be surprised by a few specials that are being offered at the time, which will end up saving you even more on your monthly cell phone bill.

Taking the Shortest Route

Since finding a solid cell phone plan for your family can require a good deal of time and effort, you may wish to consider taking a bit of a shortcut when it comes to information gathering. Rather than approaching everyone on an individual basis, for instance, you might think of having a get-together - maybe even a “cell phone party”! - so that you can bring most of your contacts directly to you, rather than seeking each of them out at different times and places. Doing effective research is time-consuming enough, so take the shortest route to your investigative destination and get a good deal of it over with at once.

Ring Christmas Bells! Cell Phone Ringtones for Christmas

‘Tis the season to buy gifts for your family, smell the holly and evergreen, and eat lots of seasonal goodies. If you’re in the mood for Christmas, shouldn’t your cell phone be in the mood too? You can get some great Christmas ringtones for your cell phone, and get yourself and everyone around you in the mood of the season. Best of all, more and more of the new ringtones are moving toward the realistic true tones, and the ones that aren’t true tones are mostly polyphonics. No more tinny “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear” for you!

What’s more, if there’s a Scrooge on your Christmas list, you can help get him or her in the mood for the season by sending a ringtone to their cell phone. It’s one of the latest and greatest way of letting someone know you care about them.

You can get the following types of Christmas ringtones for your cell phone:

Fun songs. You want “Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo” from South Park? You’ll find it here. Or maybe you want something unique: how about a techno remix of “The Little Drummer Boy?” Whatever your preference, you can find a perfect Christmas ringtone to express your joy in the season.

Traditional favorites. If your favorite Christmas song is “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” you’re in luck. This and dozens of other traditional Christmas songs can be downloaded to your cell phone as ringtones.

Religious favorites. Your favorite song is “What Child Is This?” You prefer the songs you sang in church as a child to the modern ones that seem to negate the true meaning of Christmas? You can find the songs you remember and love today as ringtones you can put on your cell phone.

Instrumental songs. Because of the limitations still inherent in even the best ringtones, the ones that sound the best are the ones that are primarily instrumental. You can find a fantastic version of “Ave Maria” for your cell phone, or you can find “Ring Christmas Bells” and other old favorites.

International Christmas Music. You want something really different that translates well to a polyphonic ringtone format? Try one of the “Christmas at Bali” ringtones, which translates a Christmas favorite into an Oriental sound, using unusual sounds and blended background noises to make your ringtone the coolest one around. Or you can try “Christmas in Palestine,” or “Russian Christmas,” depending on what you really like.

You may want something else to go with your ringtones. You can find great wallpapers and screensavers with Christmas themes as well as your ringtone themes. Whether you want St. Nick on your phone, Garfield in Christmas attire, or the soft beauty of a Thomas-Kinkaid-style Christmas landscape, you can find it. Put together the perfect theme, with wallpaper, screensaver, and ringtone, and send it to the ones you love in lieu of a Christmas card.

Wearable Spy Cameras

Posted by admin on 28 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: House Of Hardware

While spy cameras can be used by anyone, wearable spy cameras usually serve the purposes of law enforcement. These little unnoticeable cams are ideal for private investigators, cover surveillance, and secret agents but this doesn’t mean that they are not available to the public. Several companies launched models buyable by regular people.

Nearly everyone has seen a James Bond movie and remembers the high tech cameras inside pens or glasses. This is no longer a dream. Specialized shops sell spy cameras perfectly hidden inside sunglasses, pagers, pens, and other everyday items. Wearable spy cameras are also found in several other items as well. They can be attached to a helmet, for example, to record a bike ride or parachute jump. Such cameras come with added features like being waterproof, small or lightweight. There is also the possibility of having a camcorder in your backpack and a lens mounted on your hat that can record events without being held.

Of all the possible types of wearable spy cameras available to the public the most appreciated are the concealed ones, such as a pen camera. They are very easy to hide since people usually don’t look for them. Hidden in plain sight, such cams will record important evidence, like a testimony, or just about anything one might want to record with or without the people involved giving permission. Problems can arise if subjects don’t consent to being filmed, but it doesn’t matter in many instances, such as catching a cheating spouse.

Whether someone wants to do a little espionage, have fun, or take pictures where regular cameras are restricted, a wearable spy camera is perfect.

Student Discount On Laptops

Posted by admin on 28 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: House Of Hardware

Currently, laptops and notebook computers are being used to a great extent in educational institutes. With a laptop or notebook computer, students can connect to the network in the college and work on personal computers. Many manufacturers provide student computer discount offers. Though some of these offers are available only through official channels from the school, while others are available from the retailer on producing proof of enrolment in an educational institution. Some of the manufacturers that have student discount programs include Dell, Hewlett Packard, and Apple laptops.

It is important to check the institutions for restrictions, as all institutions are not accepted into these student discount programs, In most of the cases, only institutions of higher education, or universities, offer these student discounts.

Dell’s student discount program is aimed only at institutions of higher education. On providing proof that they belong to one of the eligible institutions, a Dell laptop may be purchased.

College students can check hp.com to view all the available HP student discounts that are available for higher education. HP also offers similar discounts to both students and faculty.

Meanwhile, Apple computers has a specific store for education, which offers desktop and notebook computers at special prices for education. Apple computers offers discounts for both college/university students, as well as for students in K-12 schools.

A student discount can be used if the customer is a student, teacher, a school administrator, or a faculty member. The discount can also be used if purchasing for an accredited school, college, or a hospital directly affiliated with an educational institution.

What Is Reverse-Engineering

Posted by admin on 27 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: House Of Hardware

Reverse-engineering is a term that is used for the process of taking apart something to figure out how to use it, basically. In many cases, something new and great has come about. In order to understand how it works or to recreate it, engineers will pull it apart and study it. Understanding how it works is one thing. But in order to recreate it, they will have to make it different somehow. This can be challenging but is often necessary. Reverse-engineering is quite a fantastic, but worrisome way to learn new things.

The task that is difficult in reverse-engineering is the task of making what is in such a way that it will no longer be the same. The fear that is involved has to do with the fact that patent information can be quite sensitive. Copying a product that is under a patent is highly illegal. But, if they can figure out how to use it and make it in a different method, it may fall into the gray area. What is important to remember, though, is that the patent is on the functionality of a product, not necessary on the way it is designed.

Reverse-engineering is something that has happened the most often by the military. In this case, the reverse-engineering will be used to copy other nation’s technology when it comes to military endeavors. In many cases, the information is obtained by intelligence operations. Reverse-engineering was most commonly used in the Cold War and World War II.

You will find that reverse engineering also happens as a result of curiosity; seeing if they can do it, so to speak. It is also used as a means of cracking the code of security measures and finding a way to get around the security restrictions that can be found in such things as software and electronics. It is quite possibly quite illegal to do these things though and this needs to be taken into consideration.

Toner Cartridges - How They Work

Posted by admin on 27 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: House Of Hardware

In the past computers and their accompanying printers were huge. Toner reservoirs and toner cartridges were used instead of ink cartridges like the ones in use today. Toner cartridges were difficult and messy to fill. The toner cartridges were an advancement. Some printers ran on print wheels and some used ribbons.

Computers are compact and printers now do more than just print on some cases. Cartridges with self-contained reservoirs are used in printers. Refilling some cartridges is possible and it isn’t as messy as adding toner was. Two types of printers cartridges now exist. Hewlett-Packard and Epson printers primarily, used the first type the Peizo Electric.

An electric current is applied to a small crystal causing it to expand about every five microseconds (20,000 per second). The ink, because of the expansion, squirts through the print heads rapidly and precisely. Piezo Electric can do more precise action and tend to last longer because it has fewer print heads than do bubble jet/ thermal printers.

Bubble jet printer cartridges heat the ink into a bubble and is squirted through the ink nozzles thousands of times a second. The printer that is quieter than Piezo based printers is the bubble jet. It prints with exceptionally high resolution color printing. Ink is squirted through the nozzles as they move over media in the inkjet method not the mega pixel method.

Liquid ink, is squirted, in various colors on the paper to create an image. A motor assembly is used to enable the print heads to scan the page horizontally while the page is rolled vertically. A narrow band of an image is printed and the paper moves on ready for the next step. For speed it prints a strip across the page while it also prints vertical rows of pixels in each pass.

There are several types of inkjet technology. DOD-drop on demand squirts small drops of ink on to the paper through tiny nozzles. It is akin to a hose being turned on and off 5,000 times per second. The amount of ink dropped on the paper and which nozzle fires and when is controlled by the driver software. The ink tends to smear right after printing in inkjet technology.

This is getting better as new ink compositions are developed. The Thermal Technology of printing allows the ink to shot onto the paper. This is a three stage process. The squirt begins in stage one when the ink gets heated to create a bubble. The initial pressure breaks the bubble and hits the paper. The vacuum that results pulls the ink from the reservoir to replace what was ejected.

In the past printers were highly priced because the print head that would imprint the image on paper was contained within the printer. Printers are fairly low in price, but the expense comes when you have to buy cartridges for it. It would almost be worth it to buy a new printer rather than the cartridges because the cost of cartridges is often more than the most basic inkjet printer.

Although cartridges are expensive they have some complex technology in them that would make them cheaper over-all than it would be to keep replacing printer heads. Cartridges now have print heads contained within in themselves. If you use the correct cartridges in your printer, you could have the printer for a long time. Black cartridges work by squirting the ink through tiny nozzles onto the paper as they move back and for the page as do color cartridges.

Color cartridges have three reservoirs; one is filled with magenta, one with cyan, and one with yellow ink. A lot of things can have a bearing on the image quality. The quality of the paper you choose could determine the image you get. The two main influences on image quality are brightness and the absorption of ink. The vividness of an image describes its brightness while how effectively ink is put to the paper is absorption.

It is best to use paper specifically designed to be used with an ink jet printer. Using the proper type of paper will result in the best possible image. The settings of your display properties and/or printer settings can affect your printing project. The type of paper you use and the printer may suggest leaving your documents to dry for awhile. Check your printer for settings that may save ink by putting out less ink allowing documents to dry faster and provide you with a near perfect print image.

Knowing your printer and how it works is important.

What Was Albert Einstein Thinking?

Posted by admin on 25 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: Blogerati

Albert Einstein once said, “You can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it.”

To solve a problem you’ve obviously helped to create, you need to start with a new and fresh mind. For example, a woman thinks, “If I can change my job, my life will be better.” Possibly. But life doesn’t usually work that way. That woman is likely doing and thinking the same thoughts as always. Nothing new or fresh gets in. If you want to effect a change, get outside yourself and look at the situation with fresh eyes. See how you might assess your problem using a different mindset.

Try these six ways to think with a different mind–and nudge your genius into action:

1. Break patterns. You find yourself walking or driving home only to jolt alert and wonder how you got there. The road is so familiar you followed it automatically. The same thing happens in your mind.

Your mind’s neural pathways are like roads connecting bits of information. You learn something by connecting the bits. Then you do it over and over until following that pathway becomes automatic, which enables you to effectively give a speech or swing a golf club.

Patterns are rarely easy to break, yet breaking a pattern is a splendid way to find a new solution to a recurring problem. Grocers entice us to overspend by stocking their stores in a pattern designed by shrewd marketing executives. But smart shoppers impose their own buying patterns, purchasing nonperishables first so their frozen foods won’t melt on the way home.

Break old thought patterns by trying new ways of doing a familiar task. Go to an unfamiliar coffee shop to brainstorm ideas, and you may discover fresh solutions.

2. Seek new patterns. The concept for today’s computers originated with hole-punch patterns used to weave ornate jacquard fabrics. On the huge early looms, holes punched in a paper pattern allowed hooks to penetrate and grab the thread at assigned positions, creating the intricate weave. Early census takers tweaked this pattern to create hole-punched cards, which recorded details about immigrants entering the United States. Later, IBM expanded this pattern to extraordinary levels.

Likewise, I use my nurse’s diagnosing pattern (assessment-diagnosis-intervention-evaluation) to successfully tackle issues in my business. This process of incorporating techniques and patterns from one discipline to creatively solve problems in another can result in ingenious solutions that might otherwise never occur.

3. Change a small action or behavior. Instead of going immediately to your computer when you get to the office, if that’s your habit, stop instead to write out a short list of what you want to accomplish. Then power up. Changing an action, even a small one, will often change your thought process. Shake up your internal genius and discover sensational new possibilities.

4. Challenge your obstacles. Let go of the notion that you don’t have enough time, energy, money or discipline to do what it takes to succeed. Ask yourself frequently, “What beliefs, ideas and activities are obstructing my progress? What must I change to abolish these obstacles?” My biggest obstacle is believing I don’t have enough time. When I challenge that thought I magically make more things happen.

5. Become your own other voice. Law school taught me to think of both sides of a problem, like boxers who anticipate an opponent’s every punch. The more you anticipate opposing ideas and their impact, the better you can strategize for success and avoid tactical blows. Successful attorneys spend as much time in the mind of their opponent as they do in their own. Whether it’s a career issue or a personal problem you’re resolving, practice being your own other voice.

6. Question every assumption. Another Einstein quote I like is, “The important thing is not to stop questioning.” Being the most computer-illiterate person in my office, I have no preconceived notions about what software can and cannot do. I think with an entirely different mind than our techs. Many times I ask them to make the software perform a certain way. After they tell me all their preconceived assumptions for why it can’t, I shrug and tell them to do it anyway. Two days later the software is usually working exactly as I envisioned. A questioning mind is more likely to get answers.

Beginning today, think about which mind you have working before you tackle a challenge. Your problems won’t disappear, and you may not find a solution instantly, but by keeping the possibilities in play, you allow your brain to easily hit upon a solution later. I’ve had to slip out of my yoga class to jot down ideas because I’ve had “Eureka!” moments in the middle of a pose. You may never think like Albert Einstein, but new patterns, new thinking and new behaviors will nudge the genius within you.

Introduction To Fishing

Posted by admin on 25 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: Angling News

The Thrill Of The Catch

If you haven’t fished before, you don’t know what you’re missing. If you did, you would be a fisherperson.

Not only does it bring you closer to nature, there’s the thrill of the catch. Imagine standing on the bank of a stream on a beautiful day, your rod bending under the weight of a good catch. This one’s a fighter and you take your time, allowing the fish to tire itself out before reeling it to shore. When you finally land it, you realize you’ve just caught the biggest fish of your life. It’s a great feeling and 1 you’ll never know until you give fishing a try.

Learning How To Fish

Now that I have your interest, perhaps you realize that you don’t have a clue how to go about fishing. Well, that’s what I’m here for. If you want to learn to fish, here are 5 easy ways:

* Ask a family member or friend who is an experienced angler to take you along the next time they go fishing — they will be thrilled to have a new fishing buddy

* Research online — there are hundreds of websites with instructions on fishing gear, bait, and fishing tips

* Go to your local library and check out how-to fishing books and magazines

* Check your local conservation or wildlife service — they often hold a fishing day where beginners can learn the basics of fishing.

* If you go on vacation in fishing country (which is darn near anywhere), check with local fishing stores — they often know local professionals who will teach you how to fish.

When To Go Fishing

Anytime is a good time to fish; you never know what you might catch.

Some species are more active near dawn and dusk when they are feeding, while others will bite any time of the day.

Certain times of the year are best for certain species. Fishing is a pastime you can enjoy all year round.

Getting Your License

Fishing licenses are required in most places, which you can buy at fishing tackle stores or Conservation and Wildlife Centers. The cost varies by location. Licenses for children are usually not required.

If you want to fish on private property, be sure to get permission from the owner. Otherwise it is trespassing.

Pack Up And Head Out

If you’ve read this far, it may be a sign you’re getting interested in fishing. Just follow the above instructions and soon you will be enjoying your favorite new hobby.
