Third Party Interference

Posted by admin on 10 Jun 2010 | Tagged as: Gambler Den, Internet Fun, Playing Games

When you are playing poker games, you go up against a player who you think is fairly predictable and you’re confident you can outplay this opponent. Perhaps he is in the big blind and you are in middle position. The button also stays to see the flop.

When you are focused on one poker online player, who you plan to raise to force a fold, it is easy to forget about the other quiet presence at the table who could foil your plan. In these situations, a player can grow too confident about being able to outfox a particular player and so becomes oblivious to other dangers at the table.

For instance, you know if the big blind checks and your raise post-flop, that you can make the blind player fold. The flop puts you on middle pair, and sure enough, the big blind checks. You raise without taking into consideration the player still behind you whose presence at the table has been quiet. It is easy to overlook this poker online player, who now comes in for a re-raise. You plan is foiled because you forgot to include the third-party presence in your attack strategy against the predictable big blind player.

When you base your play on trying to manipulate one player’s action, it is always best to try to isolate that player. Always be aware of the fact that another player, however quiet, may still be in the hand too.

Leave Your Cards on the Table

As a courtesy to my poker opponents, I used to try to act as quickly as I could when the action was on me. When my cards were dealt, I’d grab them up and focus on them-I’d figure out their strength, how likely they were to draw into a huge hand, and what I should do when the action came to me. That way, when it was my turn to act, nobody would have to wait-I’d bet, limp, or fold, and the next guy would act.

Screw that noise. Eventually, I learned that having tunnel vision on my own cards was crippling my poker game. I had a great idea of how much I liked my cards, but I had no clue as to what my opponents thought of theirs. Nowadays, I let my cards sit on the table until it’s my turn to act. I’ll scan the table and keep an eye on my opponents as they turn over their cards, trying to catch a telltale sign of what they’ve got. Then I’ll try to gauge my poker opponent’s hands based on how they’re betting. Once the action comes around to me, I can pick up my cards and make a much more educated decision based on what I’ve learned. My opponents can afford to wait a bit.

Bankroll Management for College Students: a Few Tips

Posted by admin on 08 Apr 2010 | Tagged as: Gambler Den, Internet Fun, Playing Games

College students are often the most strategically informed and in touch poker players around. However, they face a few specific concerns about bankroll management that the rest of the poker player world does not have to deal with. Here are few quick tips for managing your bankroll as a college student.

First, never use your tuition money to play for poker. This is an absolute rule that should never be broken. While it may be tempting to dip into your tuition or financial aid when you are on a roll, never do it. That money has already been earmarked for something else. You are taking too much of a risk when you use it in poker. After all, you may end up with nothing to pay for next quarter if you hit a series of bad beats. Always stay on the safe side and keep your school money separate from your poker money.

Secondly, get a part time job. College students have notoriously tight budgets with little wiggle room. If you try to start playing poker regularly, odds are that your budget does not have the kind of money in that you need for good bankroll management. If you get a part time job you can avoid this situation by having a set amount of money ready to fund your poker game without dipping into your savings.

Being a college student who plays poker can be a great experience. However, being a broke college student is not. Follow these tips and you will be able to avoid the latter.

Kids like Wishlanterns

Parents always seem to grow a bit worried when it’s school vacation time, they haven’t engaged a family getaway therefore the children are stuck with them each daytime everyday for the next two weeks and they often what to do with them for all of that time without becoming broke, because let’s face it, minors like to perform activities that need copius amounts of expenditure!Minors enjoy all the activities that we used to like too, trips to the film, going to the beach or theme greens, but unfortunatelly most of them require spending and if you don’t switch the routine you may go wild. Here’s an idea, why not advance them to dig into and find their creative face? Try to begin with some white and later some coloured sky lanterns ( sometimes refered as wish lanterns). Then tell your children paint, draw and ornament them as much as they can, you may use all the materials you may find about the household like featherings, sparkle, and so along.Once painted you may have them dry and have them on display for some time. After that, once there’s a special occasion like a birthday party, you may utilize the decorated lanterns and free them at the event with the children learned they made a great job decorating them. The minors will be proud to present their originative attempts to their household and admirers and will joy in seeing them up in the sky with everybody checking together. It’s a big way to spend a grand second with your household.

Chase ‘Em out

I used to always limp into every hand when I was learning poker. I figured that I’d try to risk as little money as possible before I saw whether or not the flop would pay off. There are so many things wrong with that attitude that more I learn about this game, the more problems that I find with that online poker strategy. Among them is the fact that limping into a hand allows the rest of the table to play-and for the most part, you don’t want them to. With a great starting poker online hand, you’re not likely to limp in anyway-the kind of hand that players generally limp with are ones that they shouldn’t be playing. The best case scenario when you’ve got a hand that probably won’t pay off at showdown is to not let it get to showdown in the first place and simply calling the big blind is a lousy way to start. When you’ve got a hand that isn’t worth raising, then it’s not worth playing, but if you insist on playing it, at least give yourself a chance by buying the blinds. Limping in gives your opponents a chance to see if their hands are going to win, and that’s a chance that you don’t want to give them. Chase out the other weak hands, and your odds of winning will be a lot better.

Playing at Tables with Friends

Posted by admin on 01 Feb 2010 | Tagged as: Gambler Den, Internet Fun, Playing Games

There seem to be several certain kinds of constraints put on the poker online player who would sit down at the online poker table with his buddies, particularly at a game where most of the other players are not buddies in the same way. Whether on vacation at a casino, or sharing poker table space online, the semantics of playing dollar for dollar against your friends when there are other strangers involved can get hairythough they shouldn’t. In general, when I am playing with my friends at a table of strangers, I operate against them on a very by the book routine. I don’t try to bluff them out with nothing when I am sure they had a hand to begin with, and I don’t get involved in big pots with middling hands when they have taken the lead. Sure, if I have a big hand, I have to play it, and when it comes down to it it’s every man for himself, but it seems like banging your head against your friend when there are other to challenge seems backwards. I would never collude in the way of sharing information with people I know via signals, but most often when I play a big pot with a friend I am going to have the goods. At the same time, though, you can’t let your guard slip too far. It seems immoral to not play good cards against your friend just because he is a friend, and in the end his money spends the same.

Counting on the Kicker

Posted by admin on 15 Apr 2009 | Tagged as: Gambler Den, Internet Fun, Playing Games

A round in online poker can sometimes result in a tie or near-tie because players have the same cards. For instance, two players are each holding an Ace at the casino, and make a pair when an Ace materializes on the board. Two high ranking cards and two low ranking cards appear. This is a situation where the kicker comes into play because whoever is holding the five best cards, including those on the board, wins. The kicker is the other pocket card held by each player. If each has made an Ace pair, with no other pair for their other pocket card, then whoever is holding the best kicker wins the pot. If one player is holding an 8, and the other a 7, and board has an Ace, King, Queen, 5 and 2, then the 8 plays to win the pot because it is a higher card than the 7 held by the other contender.

Sometimes the kicker doesn’t matter because the poker cards on the board all play and produce a split pot. For instance, if there was a 9 and 10 out there instead of 5 and 2, then each player would have a pair of Aces, with King, Queen, and 9. Their hands have tied to split the pot.

The kicker can be crucial for winning sometimes. It can also turn a seemingly weak hand into the strongest. When the board combines to make two pairs, and neither of those pairs improves anyone’s hand, then whoever is holding the highest card gets the pot. For example, the board has two 2s, and on the river a 7 comes out to pair the turn card. There are two pairs out there, but no one is holding a 2 or a seven or higher pair. Whoever is holding the highest kicker in that situation is the winner.

Dry Poker Spells

Posted by admin on 25 Nov 2008 | Tagged as: Gambler Den, Internet Fun, Playing Games

You can’t control what poker cards you get. It’s sad, but true. Sometimes you go through a dry spell, and you just don’t get any cars. You can try to steal poker blinds, but that can only go on so far before people get wise to you and someone calls you. You want to build up a good stack, but sometimes there’s nothing that you want to play, I mean, who wants to raise with a Jack-7?

The key here is to be patient and wait for the poker cards to come-don’t try to make a big move with some crummy hands because you think that a Jack-9’s the best you’re going to get.

Wait it out until you get the nuts, then suck them in. don’t freak out when you get Aces and go all in, because you might scare everyone out of the pot. Just play it cool, and hope somebody bets against you.

All that patience crap goes out the window if you blind down to small stack though. By then it’s war-all in or all out. If you’re down to your last ten big blinds, then start pushing all in. Better to go out with a bang and get ‘em next time.
