Let Me Choose My Television Programming Please!

Posted by admin on 19 Feb 2010 | Tagged as: Entertainment Resources, Online Media, World Of Leisure

It looks like pay-TV services may be headed for another rate hike at some point down the road. While this is nothing new (especially for cable subscribers!), this particular hike may be a result of the traditional TV networks demanding higher fees for their programming. Cable and satellite broadcasters must pay to carry programming, and while that certainly seems fair, as a consumer, I’d like to have more choice regarding the types of programming I pay for every month.

The big traditional networks are facing a slowdown in advertising, and as a result, a slowdown in revenue. Word is that they may be planning to increase the fees they charge cable companies like Comcast and satellite companies such as DirecTV and DISH Network more for the privilege of carrying their outstanding programming. Yeah, if you detected a hint of sarcasm there, you are spot on!

The networks say that their programming remains quite popular even in the face of all that competition from channels like A&E, The Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and a host of others channels that are most often referred to as “cable channels.” They probably have a point. I am aware that programs like “24″ and “Lost” have large and loyal followings, and perhaps the networks do deserve more for that programming. At the same time, however, let the consumer choose, please.

I’m not a big fan of the traditional networks. I do however readily admit a fondness for “House” and “American Idol,” and an occasional viewing of “Dateline,” but that’s about it. The vast majority of my viewing is done one those “cable channels,” and I really don’t care to see my bill go up in exchange for the right to keep watching, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox via satellite. The fact of the matter is, I can pull in these networks with my rooftop antenna just fine - and in all their glorious uncompressed HD quality to boot!

All I’m asking for is choice. If I don’t want the big four networks coming to me via satellite, allow me to opt out of that programming and leave my bill the way it is. Why should I pay for the bloke next door who wants to spend his Sunday afternoon parked in front of football games swilling beer, when all I really want from my pay-TV service are those “cable channels?”

Does Your Band Benefit from a Nice Myspace Design?

Posted by admin on 13 Dec 2009 | Tagged as: Better Multimedia, Help For You, World Of Leisure

If you have your band on MySpace then you’ll already know how easy it is to use and how much of an incredibly powerful tool it can be. Only if you use it correctly though. It is completely free to get started and it has a huge global appeal.

Artists and new bands use MySpace in many different ways and for many different things but one of the biggest reason they use it is to listen to new kinds of music and to be underground fans of bands before they make it into the mainstream.

There really is a sense of ownership for people who discover a great band on MySpace before anyone else has heard of them, with the music industry investing so much money try to get us to listen to their favourite commercial bands, its nice that you can use MySpace to develop a following for free.

Fans of music really love MySpace, it’s an easy way to keep up to date with the music industry and best of all they can actually choose which music they want to listen to and the people of MySpace actually dictate the popularity of a band.

If MySpace users don’t like your music then they won’t add you as a friend, similarly if they don’t like the design of your profile then they have no real reason to take you seriously, after all you probably for other merchandise and marketing costs so why wouldn’t you pay for professional design for your MySpace profile.

External Frame vs. Internal Frame Backpacks

Posted by admin on 29 Nov 2009 | Tagged as: World Of Leisure

Long and frequent has been the debate amongst hikers and campers regarding the use of internal or external frame backpacks. Many old timers insist that external frame packs are the way to go, mainly due to years of utilizing externals, and reluctance (like all of us), to change. The younger generation tends to gravitate toward the trendy internal frame packs. It seems that the new wave of hikers are as much concerned with form as they are with function.
In my experience, having owned and used both types of backpacks, I have compiled some recommendations based on experiences on (and off) the trail.

External Frame Backpacks
Pros– Generally less expensive, more compartments, pack doesn’t rest directly on back, increasing ventilation.
Cons– Usually more bulky than internal frame packs, can impede hiking, and storing in tent.

Internal Frame Backpacks
Pros– More streamline, more compact.
Cons–Can be expensive, few compartments, pack rest against the back.

In closing, in a normal hiking environment, (on trail), I clearly prefer an external frame pack. I find them more comfortable, affordable, and much easier to organize pack items. Internal frame packs make it difficult to retrieve items, as most items are stored in the same compartment. Internal frame packs do have their place, generally in off-trail adventures. External frame packs tend to get snagged on branches and such easily when off-trail.

Isn’t it time to plan your next hike? What are you waiting for?
